The Stage claims that Equity is positioning for further negotiations:
“Equity Annual Representative Conference 2010: Equity is to commission professional research about changes in actor employment levels across the country, in a bid to help in its negotiations with employers over pay increases.
A motion posted by the London Area Annual General Meeting called for the union’s council to work with professional academics in the next year and complete the research requested by the Manifesto for Theatre working party as a minimum.
A second motion submitted by the union’s Independent Theatre Arts Committee sought for Equity to work with Arts Council England and universities to commission research to update the 2004 ACE Economic Impact Study of UK Theatre. It also called for the study to be widened to include all UK companies which receive arts council subsidy.”
