History of NMW c. 1999

If you really want to know what was on the minds of the legislators when NMW became law; you can read this PARLIMENTARY RESEARCH PAPER on the settup on NMW.

It’s not as tough going as it sounds and there are some very interesting facts in here: The objections and ideals behind the law. The intent for the legislation to cover ALL workers. The reservations the Conservatives held over NMW.

The history behing some of the exemptions and the wording of the exemptions is particularly applicable for those discussion with film-makers who are seeking to employ actors and crew and not pay NMW.

Be careful, fellow bloggers, if you quote this material. Be careful to make sure that what you use is still valid. Some of it is very out of date. But that’s what makes history so interesting.
